LEXINGTON, KY (3/20/12)—UK freshmen Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist were selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 2012 Coaches’ Division I All-America teams as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Davis, a 6-foot-10, 222-pound freshman forward from Chicago, Ill., was a first team selection. He leads the country in blocks (166 and 4.6 per game) and ranks third in field goal percentage (.636). He leads the Wildcats in scoring (14.3 ppg), rebounding (10.1 rpg) and steals (48).
Kidd-Gilchrist, a 6-foot-7, 232-pound freshman forward from Somerdale, N.J. was a third team selection. He ranks second on the team in rebounding (7.6) and free throw percentage (.735 – 75 or more attempts) while ranking third in blocks (36) and steals (30) and fourth in scoring (11.5).
The three All-America teams were selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC.
The freshman duo helped lead the Wildcats to the No. 1 ranking as well as the overall No. 1 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
The Wildcats are set to take on the Indiana Hoosiers in the regional semifinals on Friday night at 9:45 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live on CBS.
