BOWLING GREEN, KY - Vernon Reed Canary, age 74, of Bowling Green, KY, passed away on August 29, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on Feb. 11, 1938 to the late Lloyd D. Canary and the late Leota Wegenast Canary. He was an avid bowler and also loved water skiing and country music. Vernon was gifted with a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He was a graduate of Western Kentucky University with a double major in Chemistry and Biology. There was a deep love for his wife of 55 years, daughter, son, son-in-law, and grandsons and he never missed any of his grandsons sporting events. He loved vacationing with his family and friends. He retired after 20 years of service as a state inspector for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. For many years he owned and operated Vernon Canary Wholesale Meat and was known as “The Meat Man”.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Johnson Canary of Bowling Green, KY; one son, Jett Reed Canary of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two grandsons, Zack Stahl and wife Mary Elizabeth of Smiths Grove, Caleb Stahl of Bowling Green, KY; son-in-law, Greg Stahl of Bowling Green; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Twana Jean Canary Stahl; one sister, Lee Garrett; one brother, L.D. Canary.
Graveside service will be held 2 PM on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Fairview Cemetery #1 at the Bloch Chapel and is open to family and friends.
Cremation was chosen at his request. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel.
