BOWLING GREEN, KY - Rev. Jim (Jay) Phelps Jr. of Bowling Green, passed away Saturday September 1 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
He was born August 12, 1938 in Edmonson County, Kentucky. He was an Ordained Bishop in the Church of God. He retired from Fruit of The Loom and was working at the Bowling Green City Schools. He was a member of North Bowling Green Church of God and also attended Plano Chapel.
He is the son of the late Jim Phelps Sr. and Lona Jane Higgs Phelps. He is also preceded in death by his daughter Deborah Alaine Cline, grandchildren, Louis Britt, Laura Britt and Isabelle Phelps, sister, Earline Cooper, and brother Billy Ray Phelps.
Survivors include wife of 41 years, Viola May Phelps of Bowling Green three Sons, Jimmy Phelps and wife Vanessa, Timmy Britt and wife Kim, Roger Phelps and wife Miranda all three of Bowling Green, R. Jay Phelps and wife Melony of New Johnsonville, Tennessee , Daughters, Tammy Sue Cowles of Bowling Green and Nicole Rene Crump of Louisville, KY. A brother, Tommy Phelps and wife Jean of Cool Springs, Tennessee. His grandchildren, Jimmy Ray, Timothy, Josh, Matthew, Amber, Justin, Jacob Kyle, Jacob Jay, Grant, Randy, Travis, MacKenzie, Hunter, Kimberly and Jessie. Nine Great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews great nieces and great nephews cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law.
A Celebration of his life will be 1:00 pm Thursday at the J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Friends may visit with the family from 5 ~ 8 Tuesday,11 ~ 8 Wednesday, and after 10:00 am Thursday at the J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Burial will follow in the Bowling Green Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Plano Chapel Missions Fund in memory of Jay Phelps are appreciated.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel.
