BOWLING GREEN, KY - Lawrence David Utley passed away at his home on September 11, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 5, 1945 in Logan Co., KY to the late Lawrence Edward and Ida Rager Utley. Brothers Paul and Billy Utley and sister Mary Ruth Bailey also preceded him in death.
David was a retired security manager from Roses and Castner Knott in Bowling Green. He was a Vietnam Veteran, Purple Heart Recipient, KY Colonel, American Legion member, and member of Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ.
Many knew him as “Peepaw.” His words of wisdom touched those both young and old, and were influential to all who heard them. He will be missed by all who met him.
Funeral will be Saturday, September 15 at 11:00 a.m. At J.C. Kirby and Son Broadway Chapel with W. Tom Hall officiating. Visitation will be Friday, September 14 from 1:00-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Southern KY, American Cancer Society, or Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ Building Fund would be appreciated and encouraged.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Gerry Pruett Utley of Bowling Green, his daughter Belinda Richards Gibbs and husband Chris of Bowling Green, grandchildren Jennifer Hartsock Watts and husband Jason of Allen Co., Richard Hartsock and wife Kelly of Bowling Green, Christina Gibbs of Bowling Green, and Ashley Gibbs of Hopkinsville; and the light of his life, his Great-Granddaughter Madelyn Grace Hartsock. He is also survived by brothers Jimmy of Hopkinsville, Bobby of Russellville, and Kenneth of Franklin, sisters Polly Craig of Allegre, Shirlee Yassney and Barbara Justice, both of Russellville, many nieces and nephews, very special in-laws, and many friends. He is also survived by his loyal dog-daughter, Penny.
