OWENSBORO, KY - Frederick (Pat) Biggs, 87, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Owensboro.
He was born on December 25, 1924, in Henderson, Kentucky to the late Louis and Emma Rich Biggs. Mr. Biggs was retired from Green Coal Company where he worked for 17 years.
He was a member of Parrish Avenue Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge #742, #130 Order of Eastern Star, Acacia #46, a member of Derby City Submarine, a veteran of World War II where he served in the US Navy in the Submarine Reserve at age 17. He was decorated with a President’s Citation on December 10, 1943, for his service on the S-45 in hostile waters in the Pacific. Mr. Biggs also owned and operated the Hamilton’s Ferry on the Green River for 30 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Biggs in 2007; and a son Herman Lindal Ezell in 2001.
Surviving are two daughters, Gail (Scott) Haire of Stanley and Nellie Jane (Patrick) Johnson of Augusta, Georgia; four grandchildren Andy (Rachel) Haire of Whitesville and Jeff Haire of Stanley; Neal Ezell and Lori Ezell; three great-grandchildren Isibela Haire, Breanna Haire and Ava Haire; two step grandchildren, Aaron Ralph and Raelyn Ralph; a brother Noel "Mike" (Irene) Biggs of Frankfort, Kentucky; and one niece, Tamela Biggs.
Services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m.at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Russ officiating. Burial will follow in Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday after 8:00 a.m. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Masonic Homes of Kentucky, Development Office, 3761 Johnson Hall Drive, Masonic Home, KY 40041.
