The Lady Trojans scored in the 32nd minute of the first half thanks to a goal from Casie Jones, her first-ever varsity goal. And the shot that ripped past the UCHS goalie and into the back of the net couldn't have come at a better time.

"Taking the lead was very important. We had to play catch-up against them last week so getting the early goal was huge," noted WCHS head coach Tom Welshans. "Casie, along with the rest of the young ladies are improving each and every game."

Webster turned on the 'defensive switch' the remainder of the match and completely dominated the Bravettes, not allowing a legitimate scoring opportunity the entire second half.

Webster County - 2
Henderson County - 4

In a classic battle of district-rivals, the up-and-coming WCHS soccer team fell just a little short Monday night against the tradition-rich Lady Colonels in Henderson.

"It was the best soccer game I've ever been involved in. It was awesome," noted head coach Tom Welshans despite the WCHS loss. "We played outstanding."

Webster (4-7-1) got on the scoreboard first on a goal from sophomore sensation Lauren Grant at the 26th minute mark. She re-directed a shot by Keri Wright past the HCHS goalie for the quick 1-0 lead.

After Henderson (5-5-2) tied the match at 1-1 eight minutes later, but the upset-minded Lady Trojans didn't waiver. Taylor Denison put Webster back on top at the 70th-minute mark with a 15-yarder.

Less than a minute later, HC's Brynn Dossett tied the match at 2-2 with one of her three goals on the night. The two squads battled back-and-forth for the remainder of the contest until the Lady Colonels took the lead for good at the 78th minute mark. A late goal by Henderson on a penalty kick to set the final score.

"We got some tough calls down the stretch, but that happens and we will learn from it and move on," Welshans continued. "This game will set the tone for the rest of the season and I'm looking forward to seeing what this team can accomplish. I'm very proud of each player and expect them to continue to play like they did tonight."

One shining star for the Lady Trojans was goalie Hailie Brown who thwarted numerous offensive attacks with her strong play. She ended the match with 18 saves.
