For the first time since the war began, the number of US troops occupying the country dropped below 50,000 yesterday, August 24th, which prompted announcements of an Oval Office Address and a visit to El Paso, TX’s Fort Bliss on on the same day next week for the President. Following on the heels of Obama’s speech, the United States’ role in the country will officially change to that of an “advise” and “assist” position on September 1st.
Unfortunately, throughout the over seven-year expanse of operation “Iraqi Freedom,” more than approximately 4, 400 troops were lost due to combat situations.
Obama will deliver his second Oval Office Address at 8pm Eastern Time/ 7pm Central on a variety of nationally broadcast stations.
