During the appearance, McKinney agreed to pay the City of Madisonville $50,000 in restitution in exchange for a 5-year probation sentence.
Following an audit that revealed several missing items/evidence, McKinney resigned from his position in February 2007.
In 2008, McKinney pled guilty in Owensboro’s US Federal Court to stealing approximately 85 firearms, a large sum of money, and other items from the police department’s evidence room between January 2003 and February 2007. He also confessed to having sold the firearms across state lines.
