In honor of 8 year-old Jesse McGowan and 7 year-old Maddi Wilson, both of which are students of Pride Elementary that have been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, the event offered a 1 mile walk, information on diabetes from several booths, live musical performances from rock bands Sexstone and Soul Crusher, food and refreshments from Gordon’s Grill, a bouncy castle from Bouncing B’s, and a car show put on by the local Show N’ Go Car Club.
iSurf News spoke with the event’s Coordinator, Vanessa McGowan, who explained that, “This is the second year we’ve done this. We’re walking for people with diabetes. In March of last year, my son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, so I decided to take a stand on it, and it’s turned out to be a pretty big event. We’re trying to fight diabetes and we hope to one day find a cure.”
Vanessa also mentioned that other local business and groups, such as Trover Health Systems, Tungco, and Carhartt helped by sponsoring the event.
Additionally, all the proceeds raised from the event were given directly to the American Diabetes Association.
