In culminating an astounding 2010 year, during which the band went completely undefeated, all 104 members of the Marching Maroons gathered together today, October 29th, for some eleventh hour practice and preparation for their trip to the 2010 State Finals competition.

iSurf News spoke with a 14-year Guard Director for the Marching Maroons, Troy Jones, and found out more on the competition.

“There will be 16 bands in each of the 5 classes present at the State Finals,” explained Jones, “and the top four out of each class will make the finals at Papa John’s Stadium in Louisville. We won first place out of 15 bands in the West Region by 4 ½ points. We’ve also been Grand Champions at every contest so far.”

In addition to qualifying for the State Finals 14 times in the past, the Marching Maroons have also won at the state level for 5 consecutive years. If they pull the win this year, they will have gone undefeated in the State Competition for the 6th time running.

While on the scene, iSurf News also spoke with a freshman band member and marching baritone player, William Crosswait, 14, who explained that, “This is my second year with the band. I actually marched with the Maroons last year when I was in eighth grade, but I started playing around 6th grade. We’re all really excited about going to State.”

After the Marching Maroons’ tractor trailer was loaded with equipment and the band members had all taken their places amongst 3 large passenger busses, a member of the Madisonville Police Department escorted the convoy to the edge of town.

Though their talent and overall dedication outstretch mere luck, we here at iSurf News would also like to send our best wishes the MNHHS Marching Maroons in the State Finals. In addition, we hope that your trip is a fun and safe one.
