CSX Train Derails, Sustains Heavy Damage

Occurring approximately ¼ to ½ mile northwest of a railroad crossing on Columbia Schoolhouse Road/Highway 630 in Manitou, KY (adjacent to a corn field beside 41A/Nebo Rd.), the train derailment involved approximately 13 cars, most of which were heavily damaged.

Though CSX employees were unable to comment in great detail, iSurf News did ascertain that the incident occurred sometime late last night (Dec. 18th) or very early this morning. One CSX employee explained that workers had been at the site as early as 2am. In addition, CSX workers did confirm that all of the cars were carrying coal, as was evidenced by large piles of coal near the derailment. In regards to why the train actually derailed, CSX officials had no comment.

The amount of damage to the derailed cars may have also been intensified by large, nearby trees, some of which were knocked down as a result of the incident.

Fortunately, no injuries were sustained as a result, yet, as of this report, Columbia Schoolhouse Road/Highway 630 is closed until clean-up efforts and further investigations are complete.
