Occurring on or near East Center St. in Madisonville, KY, Madisonville Police Department (MPD) members, Lt. Mark Phaup and Detective Danny Hopper, told iSurf News that the string of burglaries left items such as petty cash boxes, laptops, TVs, electronics, and other similar items missing.

As Lt. Phaup and Detective Hopper explained, businesses and organizations affected by the burglaries include, but are not limited to, the Hopkins County Habitat for Humanity office, ABC Daycare, and the Madisonville Chiropractic office.  In addition, MPD officials also believe that someone attempted to break into the Mid-West KY Chapter of the Red Cross office late Sunday evening.

“We don’t have any leads as of this time, but we have amped up our enforcement in the business areas and we’re doing extra building checks throughout the night,” said Lt. Phaup. “We are also stopping anybody that seems suspicious who is out walking the streets during late hours to try and at least figure out who walks the areas on a regular basis.”

Lt. Phaup also added that the burglar or burglars responsible for the break-ins and thefts gained access to the buildings through the windows.

The MPD’s Detective Danny Hopper, who is currently overseeing the investigations into these incidents, added that, “Of course, with it being the holiday season, theft-related incidents are going to be on the rise a little bit.”

In regards to preventing burglaries, Detective Hopper reminded people to lock up their homes, cars, and windows--and to keep an eye out for any suspicious behavior.

The MPD needs our community’s support in solving these cases and is urging anyone with additional information to contact Detective Danny Hopper or Lt. Mark Phaup at (270) 821-1720. If you, or someone you know, witnesses any kind of suspicious behavior or persons, please report the time of the activity and any other details that you can immediately. Those with potential leads or additional info may also call Crime Stoppers at (270) 825-1111.
