OWENSBORO, KY (4/26/13) – The monthly meeting of the Owensboro Board of Education was held Thursday, at the Central Office in Owensboro. The meeting was called to order by board chairperson, Nancy Eskridge. The first item on the agenda was the board recognition of various teams and extracurricular organizations within the school system. These teams included the OHS Board Soccer All-American Academic Team Awards, presented by Coach Dale Poole; the fifth grade Governor’s Cup Regional Champions, presented by teacher Jeremiah Henson; the Sutton Elementary STLP State Competition winners, presented by Sutton teacher Jamie Self; the Duke T.I.P. Recognition qualifiers, presented by OMS president George Powell; the 2013 Governor’s Scholars and Governor’s School for the Arts awardees; the Dr. Tom Maddox Outstanding Service Award, presented to Payroll clerk Lisa Salmon; and the 2013 OPS Volunteer/Helping Children Awardees, presented to parent volunteers from each school in the district.
Following the presentation of recognition and awards, the consent and action agendas were presented for consideration. The financial report, claims, and treasurer’s bonds were approved, as well as approval for fundraisers, field trips, and grant applications.
As the action agenda was presented, bid recommendations for the 2014 fiscal year were approved, with all vendor contracts being continued, with the exception of HVAC supplies, which will be purchased separately. A 2013-2014 OPS district technology plan was approved, as well as a previously presented motion for the installation of wireless infrastructure within Sutton and Newton Parrish Elementary Schools.
The board then voted to go into closed session under provision of KRS 61.810 to discuss financial business with its attorney, Bill Wilson. At the end of the closed session, the board reconvened and adjourned.
