Jana Bryant KCTM AwardDAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. (11/6/17) — Jana Bryant, who serves as the Daviess County Public Schools district math instructional coach, has been recognized by the Kentucky Council of Teachers of Mathematics as a recipient of the 2017 Ann S. Booth MESA Award. The Mathematics Education Service and Achievement Award recognizes Bryant for outstanding work in her areas of expertise and service to the mathematics community at large.
 
The Kentucky Council of Teachers of Mathematics has honored educators, administrators and other professionals with the MESA Award since 1991. The awardees are nominated by KCTM members and are chosen by an awards committee. This state-level award is KCTM’s highest honor.
 
Bryant was a guest of honor at the KCTM awards banquet in Newport on Friday, Nov. 3.
 
“I am honored to be recognized by KCTM not only for my efforts but for the efforts of all my colleagues who positively influence their students with effective teaching and who foster excitement about mathematics in and out of the classroom every day,” Bryant said.
 
Bryant serves as a 2017-2019 Teacher Advisory Council (TAC) for Hope Street Group, an EdReports mathematics content reviewer, Captain of Kentucky Core Advocates with Student Achievement Partners, and is a National Board Certified Teacher in Mathematics. Other honors have included participating on a national teachers’ panel hosted by the Council of Chief State School Officers, presenting at NCTM affiliate leaders conference and the National Education Association (NEA) College and Career Ready Standards Workgroup national convening.
 
She has been instrumental in designing and presenting at Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers conferences at the local and state levels; and has presented on a variety of mathematics and education topics at numerous national conferences and forums. She provides leadership to continue to build a movement of educators leading instructional advocacy efforts and focusing on materials alignment with high standards.
 
KCTM provides support and professional development for teachers of mathematics students at all grade levels.
