city of henderson 1HENDERSON, Ky. (8/9/17) — The city of Henderson Board of Commissioners passed a resolution supporting the separation of the County Employees Retirement System (CERS) from the Kentucky Retirement Systems (KRS) at its regular meeting Tuesday.

The separation is supported by the Kentucky League of Cities and would result in the creation of a new nine-member board whose sole responsibility would be management of the CERS.

KLC maintains that employees in the CERS are under-represented with only six seats on the current 17-member Kentucky Retirement Systems Board of Trustees that oversees both funds. CERS assets also represent about $12 billion (or 73 percent) of the total KRS assets.

In other business, the commission:

• Passed second readings of ordinance amendments from review project pertaining to the national fuel gas code as well as buildings/building regulations.

• Passed first reading of an ordinance amendment in the ongoing review of the code of ordinances making adjustments in the section related to animals, specifically eliminating fish in the ordinance prohibiting live animals as prizes, and changing the language describing service animals and the animal control officer.

• Passed first reading of an ordinance adjusting the code enforcement fine schedule to take into consideration the size of property when the city has to bush-hog an overgrown lot.

• Approved the purchase of a mobile app that will increase efficiency in property inspections and approved the purchase of a vehicle exhaust extraction system for the fire department.

• Awarded bids for uniforms ($15,243 to Cintas Corp. of Evansville), for an air conditioning system for the MSC fleet garage ($34,200 to T&G Heating and Air Condition of Henderson) and for gas system locating services ($45,640 to RussMar Utility Management of Richmond).

• Heard of review of chapter 11, chapter 11.5 and chapter 23 (articles I and II) in the ongoing review of the code of ordinances.

• The next regular meeting will take place 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, in the third-floor Assembly Room at the Henderson Municipal Center. There will be no Board of Commissioners work session in August.
