Powell 11 28

HENDERSON, Ky. (11/28/17) — Henderson attorney Andrew Powell filed the paperwork today to seek the office of Property Valuation Administrator in the Primary Election next year.

Powell currently serves as an assistant county attorney and the occupational tax administrator in Henderson County.  Prior to taking on those positions, Powell privately practiced law in Henderson primarily related to domestic and real estate matters.

"Howard Moran has been an exceptional public servant of our community," Powell said. "I am committed to continue his level of service and fairness as well as grow the transparency and efficiency of the office.  As a property owner in Henderson County, I understand just how important fairness and objectivity are to the person responsible for assessing the value of our homes, farms, and businesses for tax purposes. I transitioned from private practice in order to serve Henderson County by joining the County Attorney’s Office to fairly prosecute cases as well as to ensure that the Henderson County occupational tax is enforced objectively and that no one evades their responsibilities to our community.”

The Democratic candidate currently serves as the president of the Henderson Lions Club and serves on the board of the Henderson Area Arts Alliance. He has been the president of the board of directors at Matthew 25 AIDS Services as well the Henderson County Bar Association.  He is a member of the W.C. Handy Blues and Barbecue Festival “Blues Crew” and also volunteers to teach with the Junior Achievement program at Henderson County High School and a member of the 2017 class of the Henderson Leadership Initiative.

He said he enjoys working with youth by refereeing various sports, including basketball, baseball, and volleyball, and is active at Zion Baptist Church where he plays drums for the praise band.
