HENDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (12/2/17) — The annual "911 Gives Hope for the Holidays Toy Drive" was held today at Walmart in Henderson.

Several area volunteer fire departments, city fire departments, police and local businesses teamed up to collect as many toys as they could for children in local hospitals in addition to organizations like Ronald McDonald House.

So far, after Friday and Saturday’s donations, several truckloads of items have been donated, organizers said.

Workers for Henderson Chevrolet, one of the event sponsors, were busy transporting all of the toys to Evansville for sorting. They said the goal is to fill two tractor-trailers this year, compared to filling one last year.

Spottsville volunteer firefighter Megan Gaines said, “This is my first time helping with this event, and I think it’s awesome.”

Gaines felt honored to be able to help children find happiness in difficult times during their stays at local hospitals.

Other organizations lending a hand at Walmart in Henderson today included Zion Volunteer Fire Department, Kentucky State Police, Henderson Sheriff's Office deputies, Henderson Police Department officers, Henderson EMS, Henderson City Fire and Cairo Volunteer Fire Department crews.
