HOPKINS COUNTY, KY (2/9/12)—At approximately 8:50am this morning, February 9th, the Madisonville Fire Department (MFD) received a call from a Hopkins County school regarding a potential fire.

As members of Christ the King School initially reported, a strong smell of smoke and/or fire was present throughout much of the school’s main building. As a result of this smell, staff and faculty immediately evacuated students to a safe area.

Though the faint smell of heat or smoke remained in the school upon the MFD’s arrival, further investigation revealed that the issue was caused by a minor electrical issue. As officials explained, no flames were present at the scene and the issue has since been resolved.

At this time, Christ the King Principal, Beth Herrmann, says that classes are returning to the normal schedule.
