JailerLewisHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (11/16/17) — Jailer Mike Lewis submitted the following letter to the editor:

A few weeks ago, the jail was tagged in a post concerning the long waiting times for visitation on Sunday afternoon. After reviewing the visitation volume, it was clear we needed to make some changes to better serve our community.

We also realized that many people had no option other than weekend visits due to the fact that visits end at 2:30 Monday-Friday.

Starting this week, we are adding more visitation on Saturday afternoons to help reduce the volume and wait times on Sunday. We are also adding time slots after normal business hours two evenings a week.

The newly added Saturday time slots will be for general population male visitation, from 1-1:30 p.m., 1:30-2 p.m., 2-2:30 p.m. and 2:30-3 p.m.

The new evening visitation hours will be on Tuesday and Thursday, from 4:30-5 p.m. and 5-5:30 p.m. by appointment only. Appointments can be made as late as 4 p.m. the day prior.

Visits from friends and family are very important to those who are incarcerated. It is my sincere hope that this will allow more inmates to receive visits while making it a much easier process for the community.
