Grace 11 20UPDATE: MADISONVILLE, Ky. (11/20/17) — A 50-year-old Madisonville man is in jail after a two-hour standoff today at a Park Avenue residence.

Madisonville Police Department reported officers were called to the home for a disturbance at 10:39 a.m. Outside, officers met family members, who said Charles Grace was inside his parent’s home, though there was a Kentucky emergency protective order restricting him from being at the property.

The family also indicated Grace had potential access to shotguns inside the house, police reported. Grace also had a warrant for a previous violation regarding the protection order. When officers tried to speak to Grace, he shut the door and refused to step out.

Madisonville Emergency Response team and special negotiators were called to the scene, making several attempts to talk to Grace. After the man did not respond to repeated commands, ERT used a chemical agent that resulted in his eventual surrender.

There were no reported injuries. Several dogs and a cat could be seen trying to get out the front door after the man stepped out with his hands up.

Grace was charged with two counts of violating a Kentucky EPO/DVO, resisting arrest and failure to appear. He was listed as being held in Hopkins County Jail this evening on $5,000 cash bond.

Madisonville Fire Department and Medical Center Ambulance Service assisted.

The video below shows the suspect walking out the front of the home to surrender:
