MADISONVILLE, Ky. (12/04/17) — Madisonville Noon Kiwanis Christmas Parade kicked off Saturday with a celebration of music and lights.

Excited parade spectators anticipated an array of more than 100 parade entries ranging from nativity scenes, school marching bands, first responders local dance and cheer teams to area business floats.

Float award winners have not been announced as of this morning.

Children also were excited about Saint Nick’s appearance at the parade.

Hopkins County Central High School Chorus began the celebration by singing Christmas carols followed by Mayor David Jackson conducting the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the old Hopkins County Historic Courthouse.

With this year’s theme of “The Music of Christmas,” Hopkinsville Kiwanian’s had a difficult job of judging.

Ballard Center Executive Director Dana Brown and Master of Ceremonies Tim Thomas served as emcees, while Kiwanian Buddy Brooks served as Grand Marshal.

Downtown streets along the parade route were lined with excited spectators of all ages as temperatures remained well above freezing this year.

Madisonville Noon Kiwanis began hosting the parade in 1999. Previously, Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce hosted the parade.

Kiwanian Peyton Adams said, “The parade has been taking place for many years.”
