City Council 12 6MADISONVILLE, Ky. (12/6/17) — Madisonville City Council approved advertisement for bids this week on construction of a new T-hangar at Madisonville Regional Airport off Anton Road.

The 7,350-square-foot, 16-hangar unit, similar to the existing hanger, would allow more space at the airport for larger planes flying into the airport, city officials said at a council meeting held Monday at City Hall. Funds to build the facility would be generated from airport monies.

Mayor David Jackson indicated a helicopter pilot training school is interested in locating at the airport, which has the potential to offer additional commerce to the area. The name of the prospect has not been announced.

The city also approved an ordinance to lower sewer rates for large consumers/industry.

The amendment allows consumers using between 4.5-7 million gallons of water per month be charged at a rate of $6 per unit (1,000 gallons), and $4.50 per unit in excess of 7 million gallons per month.

Mayor David Jackson said at a previous meeting the lower sewer rate proposal is an incentive to lure larger businesses into the city.

The rate includes a decrease of approximately $1.75 per gallon for users up to 7 million gallons, and about $2.75 cents in savings for users of more than 7 million gallons.

Councilman Adam Townsend, who works at Ahlstrom, indicated he abstained from voting due to a conflict of interest on the matter.

In other business, city council heard first reading of an ordinance to close an alley at 38 Lovan Lane at the corner of property owned by Cindy Wadlington Luck, and approved the water department’s request to advertise bids on a new pump for the westside pump station.

The mayor declared Dec. 14 as “Madisonville North Hopkins High School Marching Maroons Day.” The proclamation was presented to MNHHS Band Booster President Will Coursey during the meeting.

The award-winning band plans to present its “Winter Concert” 7-8 p.m. Dec. 14 at Glema Center for the Arts as a gift to the community. Admission is free.
