Becky 2 12 7MADISONVILLE, Ky. (12/7/17) — Officers say law enforcement duty understandably involves time away from many of their own family functions, especially during holidays due to their busy work schedules.

Two Madisonville churches decided to spread a little Christmas cheer today to honor the 85 law enforcement officers at Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office and Madisonville Police Department.

Each will be served a cup of coffee from Big City Market upon presenting their $5 gift cards, the pastors said.

First Cumberland Presbyterian Church Pastor Becky Zahrte, First Christian Church Pastor Kara Foster along with a few congregation members presented the gifts early this morning.

The clergy members said the two churches partnered as a way to say “thank you” for all the time officers invest in Hopkins County, and hope to make it an annual endeavor.

“It’s very nice,” Sheriff Matt Sanderson said, upon receiving the gifts. “I think a lot of times in this profession, we don’t hear an abundance of gratitude. Anytime anyone is willing to do these kinds of things, it is good and definitely appreciated.”

MPD Spokesman Lt. Andy Rush said the gesture is very heart-warming.

“We try to do so much for the community during the holiday season like Shop with a Cop and collecting items for the Christian Food Bank,” Rush said. It’s refreshing that people are thinking of law enforcement during Christmas.”
