James Earl Nichols, age 81, of Dawson Springs, KY

 

DAWSON SPRINGS, KY - James Earl Nichols, age 81, of Dawson Springs, KY, passed away at 5:12 P.M. on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville, KY. Mr. Nichols was born July 7, 1930 in Dawson Springs, KY. He was a member of Landmark Apostolic Church in Dawson Springs, KY.

Mr. Nichols was a 1950 graduate of Dawson Springs High School; played basketball in high school, in the Army and in the Agoga Tri-State Basketball Association for many years and also assisted in coaching basketball. Mr. Nichols served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He was a coal miner and worked many years for the Peabody Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA.

Mr. Nicholas is survived by his wife of 61 years ~ Gloria Jody Nash Nichols of Dawson Springs, KY; a son & daughter-in-law ~ Jim & Peggy Nichols of Eudora, Kansas; a son ~ John Nichols of Dawson Springs, KY; a brother ~ Charles Nichols of Dawson Springs, KY; a granddaughter ~ Sarah Ann Nichols of Eudora, Kansas.

Preceding Mr. Nichols in death were his parents ~ Denver & Beulah Cansler Nichols; two brothers ~ Clyde Lee Nichols & Denver Nichols, Jr.; two sisters ~ Lodema Driskill & Juanita Robinson.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 12, 2012 from 5 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs, KY, and on Monday, February 13, 2012, from 9 A.M. until the funeral hour at 1 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted by Elder Robert Akers and Pastor Rusty Akers on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at Beshear Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery in Dawson Springs, KY.

Active Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Nash, Paul Poole and Jonathan Nash. Honorary Pallbearers will be Owen Johnston, Allen Redden and Kenny Stokes.
