CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (12/4/11) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) officials are currently investigating a case where a man was shot as he attempted to run over a KSP Trooper.
On Saturday, Dec. 3, at approximately 7:42 PM, KSP Post 2 responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Beeker Road in Christian County. Once on the scene, Trooper James McArthur attempted to pull the vehicle over. The vehicle then drove away at a high rate of speed. Trooper McArthur chased the vehicle to an area on Rosetown Road. At this point, the driver purposely struck the Troopers vehicle.
Trooper McArthur exited his vehicle and began to approach the suspects’ car. It was then that the driver attempted to run over Trooper McArthur. Trooper McArthur was forced to fire at the vehicle in defense, hitting the driver.
From there, the driver attempted to flee once more heading east on US HWY 68. The driver continued to flee onto Morton Lane and then to Henderson Road heading into Todd County, KY. Finally, the driver came to a stop and was removed from the vehicle.
Medical Services were called in to treat the driver and he was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center. From there he was life-Flighted to Vanderbilt Medical Center. At this time, SurfKY News has not received information on the suspects condition. The name of the driver has not been released at this time as well.
Trooper McArthur is currently on Administrative leave as is required by State Police policy as the investigation is being performed.
KSP was assisted by the Hopkinsville/Christian County Ambulance Service, Todd County Emergency Medical Services, and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office.
