HOPKINSVILLE, KY - Dorothy Louise Wetton Allen, 86, passed away at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes.
A native of Stewart County, TN born July 25, 1925, she was the daughter of the late John Eric and Idella Hester Griffin Wetton and the widow of John Prentice Allen who passed away June 19, 2005. Prentice and Dorothy had been married 61 years.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church where she was a charter member of the Emmanuel Sunday School Class. She had been a 4-H leader and a volunteer for R.S.V.P. She was a retired sales clerk for J.C. Penney.
Survivors include two daughters; Elizabeth Carolyn Allen Sanford, Hopkinsville and Judith Holmes Allen Shemwell and her husband Larry, also of Hopkinsville, two brothers; John Douglas Wetton and his wife June, Schamburg, IL and Isaac Bruce Wetton and his wife Carol, Todd Co., KY, two sisters; Alice Evelyn Stamper, Springfield, TN and Margaret Ann Henderson and her husband Wallace, Todd Co., KY, five grandchildren; Michael Neal, Ladonna Neal, John Eric Neal, Stephanie Shemwell Hotson and Scott Lee Shemwell and five great-grandchildren; Seth Neal, Michael Neal, Matthew Neal, Cadence Hotson and Donovan Hotson.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Anita Louise Allen Ellis, one brother, Harold Wetton and one sister, Opal Anthony.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville conducted by Rev. David Tucker and Rev. Joby Brown with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
