cadiz auto theftCADIZ, Ky. (7/18/17) — While authorities were responding to a fire at Better Senior Living Home yesterday afternoon, a resident left the scene in one of the Trigg County Sheriff’s vehicles and led police on a chase.

Cadiz Police and TCSO responded to the senior living home at 5:17 p.m. to assist residents in evacuating the facility. At 5:36 p.m., resident Lawrence McCarthy, 57, left the scene at a high rate of speed in a TSCO truck.

Cadiz Police Sgt. Tyler Thomas pursued McCarthy, who continued onto Main Street and U.S. 68 West. McCarthy crossed the two-lane bridge on Lake Barkley and struck two vehicles on the west side of the bridge at around 5:53 p.m. He was then taken into custody.

Kentucky State Police assisted in the pursuit and are investigating the crash. KSP arson investigators are looking into the fire at the home.

Cadiz Police are continuing its investigation into the vehicle theft.

McCarthy was charged with auto theft more than $10,000, theft of a firearm, first-degree fleeing or evading police, speeding, reckless driving, resisting arrest, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment.
