KENTUCKY (2/4/12) – The Energy and Environment Cabinet is offering four free training sessions to assist county governments in updating their 5-year solid waste management plans.
Under Senate Bill 2, each county/area is required to develop and implement a comprehensive 5-year plan for managing waste and update the plan for each successive 5-year period. The 2013-2017 solid waste management plans are due Oct. 1, 2012.
County judge-executives, county commissioners and magistrates are eligible for 4.5 training hours through the Department for Local Government’s County Officials Training Program. County solid waste coordinators, advisory committee members, area development district (ADD) representatives, and others also are encouraged to attend.
Meeting dates and locations follow:
• Feb. 7, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. EST, 300 Fair Oaks Drive, Room 301 D, Frankfort; 502-564-6716
• Feb. 15, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. CST, Pennyrile ADD, 300 Hammond Drive, Hopkinsville; 270-886-9484

Participants are requested to phone Melinda Meredith at 502-564-6716, extension 4633, to reserve meeting location and the number attending from your area. Participants also are asked to bring a copy of their area’s current 5-year plan. In case of inclement weather, please call the facility to determine if the meeting will be held. Lunch and refreshments will be on your own.
