MUHLENBERG COUNTY, KY (2/17/12) - After 30 years of service, Russell L. Croley will be retiring from the position of City Attorney for Central City, KY.
Since 1982, Russ Croley has provided legal advise and representation for the city of Central City. On January 12, 2012 he sent in his official letter of resignation to Mayor Barry Shaver, effective March 1.
"At the age of 61, there are a lot of other things I would like to do and pursue -- like attending to family matters and my private practice - Croley Law Office," Croley told reporters.
Although retiring as City Attorney, Croley can still be found practicing at his law office, in Central City's Oak Tree Plaza. He may also be seen acting in roles for film and television - a career that he will continue to pursue.

In his resignation letter to Mayor Shaver, Croley stated, "It has been my privilege and honor to serve the City of Central City for the past thirty years as its City Attorney. During that tenure I have worked for you and four other mayors, with a multitude of City Council members, and a host of other City officers and employees. I can truly say that my service to the City and its citizens over these many years has been one of the highlights of my legal career, and I shall always cherish the memories and experiences garnered during that time, some of which are reminders of challenging times and events, but many more of which are reminder of great strides and accomplishments the City has made."
According to City Administrator David Rhoades, "I have been serving the longest, along side Russ Croley. He is very knowledgeable in city ordinances and law and has written every city ordinance for the past thirty years -- he will be hard to replace. Russ has been a good friend and he will be missed."
During the City Council meeting, on Wednesday, Feb. 15, Dennis Winters was appointed as City Attorney for Central City. Dennis Winters has a private practice, Dennis N. Winters Law Office, located on Broad Street, in Central City. Winters will take over his new position on March 1, 2012.
