Former KY College Athlete Signs Deal with Canadian Football League

 

Derrick TownselMURRAY, KY (1/19/12) – Former Murray State standout wide receiver/kick returner Derrick Townsel signed a contract with the Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Eskimos. The CFL season kicks off in June and runs through November, culminating with the Grey Cup.
 
Townsel spent the 2010 NFL season with the Houston Texans. He was a member of the practice squad, before being activated to the 53-man roster late in the season.
 
The two-time all-OVC wide receiver closed out his Racer career with 153 catches for 1,712 yards and five touchdowns. He ranks second on the all-time list for career receptions, sixth in yards, and tied for sixth with four 100-yard performances. Townsel posted the fifth-best single-game receiving day when he had 199 yards receiving in a victory over Tennessee Tech on Oct. 11, 2008.
