ARSON INVESTIGATIONGREENVILLE, Ky. (7/19/17) — An arson investigation is underway in Muhlenberg County after three juveniles allegedly set fire to a elderly woman’s residence with fireworks.

Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Deputy Jakop Smith said a structure fire at 97 Jade West Drive Lot 18 in Greenville was dispatched at 11:43 p.m. Tuesday. When authorities arrived, it was uncertain if anyone was inside the residence. However, Greenville Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Phillip Groves, GFD firefighter Jeremy Crick and Greenville Police Department Officer Brock Mefford entered the residence and located 72-year-old Patricia Ford in the back bedroom of the mobile home and she was assisted safely out of the residence.

An investigation raised suspicion that three juveniles were shooting fireworks at a nearby apartment. The juveniles were interviewed and released to their parents. Charges are pending for the three, said Smith, whose investigation continues.

GPD Officer Tim Wright, Graham Fire Department, Kentucky State Fire Marshall’s Office and Kentucky Utilities assisted at the scene.
