mcpl 2017 300MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (8/2/17) — The following events and activities are planned for Muhlenberg County Public Libraries in August:

Outer Space Coloring Contest
Muhlenberg County Public Libraries will host an outer space-themed coloring contest from now through Aug. 18. Come to either library location to pick up coloring sheets. Sheets must be turned in by 4 p.m. Aug. 18. Winners will be announced on Aug. 21, the day of the Eclipse. Age groups for the contest are 2-4, 5- and, 10-13. Prizes will be awarded to winners!

Book Club
Join the Thistle Cottage book club for a fun experience! The club meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 2 p.m. at Thistle Cottage. Light refreshments will be available. Call 270-338-4760 for more information!

Movie Club
The Spoiler Alert Movie Club works just like a book club, except instead of reading the book (although we encourage that, too!) we watch movies. Participants watch on their own and then come together to discuss. The movie club meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at Thistle Cottage. We'll have snacks and discussion about the movie of the month. Join us to share your comments and opinions! Movie suggestions for future months are always appreciated.

Eclipse Kickoff
Join Muhlenberg County Public Libraries for a fun and informative family event at the Central City library at 6 p.m. Aug. 10. We will host a presenter from Nashville's Adventure Science Center. He will have several fun activities and will discuss eclipse-related topics, including what causes an eclipse and how to view safely. This event is free and for all ages!

Eclipse Craft Week & Scavenger Hunt
Muhlenberg County Public Libraries encourages everyone to visit Aug. 14-18 to complete a color-changing glow-in-the-dark bracelet craft in honor of the upcoming solar eclipse! Stop by either library location during normal business hours to make a bracelet.
The Central City library will also have a kids space scavenger hunt on the main floor. Find them all and win a prize.
These events are free and no registration is required!

Teen Craft Night
Teen craft night will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14 at Thistle Cottage. Craft night is for ages 10-18.
This month's craft for teen craft night is pinhole projectors. These projectors can be used to safely view a solar eclipse, or a modified version can be used as a projector to aid in drawing. With the right equipment, pinhole projectors can even be used as a camera! We will be making the basic pinhole projector at craft night. Call 270-338-4760 for more information.

Kids Eclipse Parties
Muhlenberg County Public Libraries will host children's eclipse parties for ages 18 months to 5 years at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 17 at 10:30 at Central City and at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 18 at Harbin Memorial. These parties will feature eclipse crafts, games, treats and an educational video.

Lucinda Scharf Open House
August's featured artist at Thistle Cottage is Lucinda Scharf, commonly known in the area as Rooti Patooti. Scharf will visit Thistle Cottage from 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 17 for an open house and reception in honor of her show. Light refreshments will be provided. Everyone is invited to join us to meet the artist and view and discuss her work!

Eclipse Viewing Parties
Join us at Muhlenberg County Public Libraries for this historic event! We will host viewing parties for the solar eclipse at our Thistle Cottage and Central City library locations.
A total solar eclipse is incredibly rare in any particular area, and this time Muhlenberg County is fortunate to be directly in the path. Weather permitting, we will have a great view of the total solar eclipse as it passes over Muhlenberg County!
We will have snacks, free eclipse glasses and fun activities. A live stream of the eclipse will also be available from NASA in the event of inclement weather. Muhlenberg County Public Libraries will project NASA's video onto a large screen so no one misses the historic eclipse.
These events are free and open to everyone!
For more information about our eclipse parties, call Muhlenberg County Public Libraries at 270-338-4760.

Doodle Hour
Color your Stress away with Doodle Hour: Coloring for Adults! Coloring promotes wellness & creativity and helps to relieve stress. Doodle Hour will be held at the Central City library from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 25. We will provide coloring sheets, coloring pencils & markers. Feel free to bring your own art supplies. This event is for ages 16 and up. For more information, call 270-338-4760.

Storytime
Storytime is back! Muhlenberg County Public Libraries' Storytime returns Aug. 29.
Storytime is for ages 18 months to 5 years and runs through the end of October. Storytime is held every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Harbin Memorial and every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Central City library.
