CRICK MEFFORD

GREENVILLE, Ky. (8/12/17) ― Public servants do things daily that are heroic. But sometimes, they go above and beyond what some may believe is too dangerous to attempt. However, six people did just that and were recognized for bravery during a recent Greenville City Council meeting ― two police officers, three firefighters and a citizen.

The council expressed its appreciation on behalf of the city during an Aug. 10 meeting and awarded the individuals with plaques. The recognitions were given for the following reasons:

“On May 22, 2017, Greenville Assistant Fire Chief Brian Jones responded to Greenville Park Apartments and entered an apartment filled with smoke.  He rescued an elderly female from the apartment and extinguished the fire, preventing damage to other apartments.

“On July 18, 2017, Greenville Police Officer Brock Mefford, Greenville Deputy Fire Chief Phillip Groves and Greenville Firefighter Jeremy Crick responded to a house fire in Luzerne.  They entered the house without any protective gear and rescued an elderly female from the burning structure.

kerry vincent“On August 1, 2017, Greenville Police Officer Kerry Vincent responded to a vehicle crash on Highway 601.  As Officer Vincent arrived on scene, he located an unresponsive elderly male seat belted in the driver seat.  The front of the vehicle was on fire and the passenger compartment was filled with smoke.  Officer Vincent and citizen Jerry Amos pulled the man from the burning vehicle.

Without the bravery of these individuals, three Muhlenberg County residents would have definitely perished in the three incidents.”
