muhlenbergSignGREENVILLE, Ky. (11/21/17) — Muhlenberg Fiscal Court decided to re-advertise for bids on the 4.1-acre New Cypress Ballpark property after receiving only one bid that didn’t meet the reserve amount.

The decision was made at the court’s regular Nov. 16 meeting at the Muhlenberg Courthouse. The reserve amount for sale of the ballpark, which has significant infrastructure including water and electricity is $12,000, said Judge-Executive Rick Newman. The sole bid was for $6,500, he said.

An ATV ordinance continues to be considered. After discussion, magistrates decided to table the issue until the future and to allow Newman to research the possibility of charging a nominal fee for a sticker for out-of-county residents to use the Muhlenberg park.

The Central City Head Start building lease was discussed. The renovations made by the organization in lieu of rent has been consumed, Newman told the court. In the past, leases ranged from $250 - $500 a month for the building.

“Do we want to pursue another monthly lease amount?” Newman asked about the 2,100-square-foot building. “It is an important educational resource and we don’t want to run them out.”

Magistrates decided to allow Newman to negotiate with Head Start officials and report back to the court about a fair amount of rent.

In other business, the court re-appointed Kathy Miller to the Muhlenberg Airport Board and Mike Camplin to the Muhlenberg County Water District No. 1 Board. Shawn Conkwright and Eldon Pendley were appointed to the UK Extension Board Council.

Darrell Simpson, UK Agriculture Agent for the Extension Office, presented his annual report to the people and introduced Mary Beth Riley as the agency’s Family and Consumer Sciences Agent. Mackenzie Pogue, 4-H Agent, also addressed the court.

There will be a Solid Waste Hearing at 3:30 p.m. followed by a 4 p.m. Fiscal Court meeting Dec. 14 at the Muhlenberg County Courthouse in Greenville.
