BREMEN, KY - George Ray Matheny, 78, of Bremen, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville, Kentucky.
Mr. Matheny was born in Henry County, Tennessee on October 29, 1933.
He was a pastor at Fern Hill Baptist in White Plains, KY for nearly 20 years. He was a volunteer chaplain at Green River Correctional Complex and worked there, also.
He was the son of Edgar Foriest and Anna Isabel Matheny. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jean Matheny. He had six brothers and two sisters. Two brothers, James Elmer Matheny and Everett Wayne Matheny preceded him in death. His remaining brothers and sisters are Curtis Franklin Matheny. Evelyn Jane Lane, Edgar Dale Matheny, Janice Faye Soloway, Gary David Matheny, and Jerry Lynn Matheny. He was also preceded in death by three grandchildren, Christopher Lee Crick, Bobby Ray Foray, and Katie Beth Foray.
Survivors include two sons, Russell Foriest (Patsy) Matheny of Paris, Tennessee and Randahl Bruce (Barbara) Matheny of Sacramento, Kentucky; four daughters, Renee (Jeff) Reed, Robbin Sue Ellis, Patricia Ann (James) Kemp, all of Bremen, Kentucky, and Donna Rae Crick of Topeka, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Donnie Foray, Stacy Clement, Stevon Crick, Sara Honn, Dora Hudson, Bruce Matheny, Christina Wright, Lauren Sowers, and Ashley Eaves; nineteen great-grandchildren, Ragan Foray, Shana Foray, Dawnielle Foray, Allison Foray, Dalton Foray, Seth Peveler, Halston Matheny, Ashlynn Clement, Kaitlynn Clement, Charlie Jean Crick, Jordan Honn, Bobby Jacob Honn, Dakota Hudson, Zoey Hudson, Olivia Hudson, Landon Matheny, Brayden Wright, Gracie Sowers, and Abram Eaves; and one great-great-grandchild, Samuel Wood.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 2:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Rev. Robert Pierce officiating. Burial in Gish Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday after 5:00PM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.
