High-Tech Company Expands Operations to Lexington

nohms 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (9/4/2013) – A New York based battery maker will now host some of its operations in Lexington. NOHMs Technologies, Inc. announced Wednesday that it is moving several employees to work at the Kentucky Argonne Battery Manufacturing Research and Development Center, a facility operated by the University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research.

“Batteries are everywhere,” said NOHMs Technologies CEO Nathan Ball. “All of those individuals and members of their team had a part to play in our relocation here. They made it a smooth transition for us. It's really exciting for us to be here for the strong support from the state, for the strong facilities at UK.”

Governor Steve Beshear, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray, and University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto attended the press conference announcing the expansion at the Spindletop Administration Building at the UK Center for Applied Energy Research.

NOHMs, or Nano Organic Hybrid Materials, works to commercialize advance materials for the lithium-sulfur battery industry in order to revolutionize vehicle markets, as well as military products and cell phones. They'll now be working in the Bluegrass to help develop a new infrastructure of electric vehicles, and deliver energy at a lower cost.

Hall said he's excited to have members of his team working at UK.

“It's a facility unlike any other in the country right now outside of national labs or big companies. A small company like ours has a chance to use big company infrastructure,” said Hall.

The center will also have offices in the Spindletop Administration Building. It's projected to create over 160 jobs in the coming years.
