LEXINGTON, Ky. (10/30/13) — This Saturday, the University Of Kentucky Wildcats will be facing off against the Alabama State Hornets and Coach Mark Stoops is going into the game with hopes to end Alabama States six game winning spree.
“ There are no gimmes in this league. So anybody that’s trying to rebuild a program will tell you that the best way to rebuild and get that confidence is to get some wins. Well, they don’t exactly give those out in the SEC,” Stoops said, “and that’s what makes it hard and that’s what makes you have to be a good, sound, good football team, and we’re not there yet. We’re working on it.”
According to Stoops, Alabama State is a very well balanced football team. The Wildcats aren’t going into this match up confident, but they are looking for a win.
“We are just trying to make our program better,” Stoops said. “There’s nowhere to go but just go back to work and keep on grinding and keep on getting better. I think the team is starting to understand that. We just have to look at our mistakes, correct them, and get better.”
Stoops agrees it has been a rough season for the team and the coaching staff but he thinks that they have improved a lot since the first game. If they keep improving and getting better they will form into the team they need to be to play with the best.
“I think we’re getting better. I do. As a coach you know when you put on film when you’re playing another team, if they’re well coached and they play hard. I think we’re doing that. We’re not perfect but we’re doing that.” he said. “I don’t think we play very smart, and that’s what we are working on, you play smarter and you play hard, you give yourself a chance to win.”
Kick off is at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium. Come out for UK’s Homecoming and support the Wildcats!
