FAYETTE COUNTY, Ky (2/14/14) — Caleb Hamlyn, a seventh-grader at Lexington Traditional Magnet School, was runner-up and Gus Carlson, an eighth-grader at Winburn Middle school, finished third in the 2014 Fayette County Spelling Bee. Both students received medallions and cash prizes.
Fayette County Farm Bureau sponsored the countywide competition for grades 4 through 8, and the Feb. 13 contest was held at the Fayette County Cooperative Extension Office. Each county’s winner advances to the March 15 spelling bee in Louisville, sponsored by Ford Motor Co. and the Kentucky Derby Festival. This contest includes students from Kentucky and southern Indiana.
