Structure Fire on Hall Street

Hallstfire 1MADISONVILLE, Ky. (3/21/13) –At approximately 10 p.m. last night, March 20, Madisonville Fire Department and Madisonville Police Department responded to reports of a structure fire at 106 Hall Street. Upon arrival, MFD Captain Darwin Rideout said that firefighters encountered heavy fire coming from the windows of the vacant home owned by James “Coach D” Davis.

“We did a primary search because we had reports that vagrants may be staying here,” said Rideout. “Nobody was found.”

Class A foam was deployed, and the fire was brought under control quickly but not before causing major damage to the structure.

Neighbors said that numerous people regularly entered and exited the home, mainly late at night as to not draw attention.

Nita Hughes, who lives directly across the street from the scene, snapped off a picture of the flames at their apex, using her phone’s camera. Other members of the Hughes family who live at 116 Hall Street, directly adjacent to the scene, reported that they first smelled the smoke from the fire and then quickly fled to safer ground after they felt the intense heat from the neighboring flames.

Witnesses also said that a power line had partially fallen and was in contact with the east side of the structure, sparking. It is unclear if the downed line contributed to the fire or if it fell as a result of the incident.

MFD Major Wyatt told SurfKY News today that the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
