clownPOWDERLY, Ky. (6/4/14) — The Muhlenberg County Fair is coming.

The county fair starts Friday, June 6 opening 7 p.m. with a Mule Fun Show in which mules and their riders compete in some fairly creative activities.

It is a great family event with admission being $5 per person.

On Saturday June 7, it's the Western Horse Show. This event starts at 10 a.m. with the show beginning at 5 p.m. If you love horses, then this is the place to be this Saturday. On June 9, the fair is hosting the Miss Pre-Teen, Miss Teen and Miss Muhlenberg County Fair pageant. Admission is $5 a person.

The Muhlenberg County Fair is possible through the efforts of the Muhlenberg County Fair Board, which is a non-profit group. The president of the board is Darrin Benton, a local businessman. The volunteer group's mission is to have a successful fair that is enjoyed by as many people as possible.

"The board meets once a month for the entire year but as the fair gets closer we meet two to three times per week," said Benton. "The fair is a pay one price fair we feel that a pay one price fair makes it more affordable for everyone to come."

While the first three days of the fair costs $5 per night, the price goes up when the carnival rides open. The $10 admission pays for all the midway shows and all the rides. A family does not have to pay anything extra for the entertainment. There's free gate admission for children under 36 inches tall, however, they must purchase the $10 armband to ride the rides.

While flyers about the fair should have been received in every mailbox in the county, Muhlenberg County Fair tabloids are available at the UK County Extension Office, various businesses and at local government offices. Both are resources for daily events and schedules.

This year, the fair will feature the "No Joes Circus Act" out of Georgia. The comedy clown act is very popular with families. There will also be a poultry show for the first time on Thursday for those that like chickens, ducks,and other fowl creatures.

A corn hole tournament will also be held during the fair. Not only is this tournament a 100 percent payout but also the Fair Board has placed $200 into the prize pool making this a great event to enter.
