WASHINGTON (5/6/14) — U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, joined Representative Sam Graves (MO-06) in introducing a resolution to recognize teachers in Kentucky and all across America on National Teacher Day.
Education is the foundation of our great country, and teachers play such an integral role in shaping our youth. Not only do they serve as educators, but also as mentors and role models, helping to shape our nation’s young people and encouraging them to reach their fullest potential. Teaching is a profession that is truly deserving of respect, especially during this week dedicated to honoring all those dedicated to educating our youth. Traditionally Teacher Appreciation Week is recognized during the first full week of May, with National Teacher Day falling on the Tuesday of that week.
“I am thankful for all of our wonderful Kentucky teachers and for all those around the country who chose to teach. I certainly owe much of my success to my education and support I received in school,” said Whitfield. “Often times teachers are not given the recognition they deserve, and I encourage everyone, on this National Teacher Day, to thank their current and past teachers for their hard work and dedication and to recognize them on social media outlets with the hashtag #ThankATeacher.”
