FRANKFORT, KY (1/16/12) - Representative Adam Koenig, R-Erlanger (69th District) announced today he has filed House Concurrent Resolution 148, which urges President Obama and U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to reverse their final ruling requiring non-profits, including religious groups, to provide contraceptive insurance that violated the organization’s moral or religious beliefs.
“This is yet another prime example of the overreach of the Federal government by dictating mandates through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act,” said Rep. Koenig. “A large part of the basis for establishing our independence was the freedom of religion without interference by our rulers. It is simply wrong for the Federal government to say legislation trumps a person or organization’s religious and moral beliefs.”
HCR 148, co-sponsored by Rep. Stan Lee, R-Lexington; Rep. Kevin Bratcher, R-Louisville; Rep. Brad Montell, R-Shelbyville; and Rep. Addia K. Wuchner, R-Florence was filed in the Kentucky House on February 14th.
