FRANKFORT, KY (3/9/12) – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield, (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, released the following statement on today’s jobs report:
“While today’s jobs numbers offer some encouragement, more must be done. Under President Obama, unemployment has remained above 8 percent for three years. And today in Kentucky, unemployment is almost 9 percent. These numbers reflect the failed policies of President Obama.
“The President speaks of wanting to create jobs but his actions do not support his words. The President and the Senate had the opportunity to create 20,000 direct jobs and 100,000 indirect jobs by moving forward with the Keystone XL Pipeline. I’m not sure why the Senate failed to pass legislation that would lead to jobs for American workers, and why President Obama rejected the Keystone XL project.
“It’s time for the President and Senator Harry Reid to stand up for American workers and take action to create and retain jobs. The House of Representatives has passed the JOBS Act, and 30 bipartisan jobs bills over the past year and President Obama must urge Sen. Reid to allow the Senate to pass these bills that will create jobs and boost our economy.”
