KENTUCKY (3/22/12) – Kentucky State Parks will be serving the annual Easter buffet on April 8, and several parks are planning other special events.
All 17 resort parks will be serving the buffet from noon until 8 p.m. (local time). The menu includes beef carved on the line, baked country ham, golden fried catfish and hushpuppies. The meal will also include fresh fruit, a cheese bar, garden vegetables, salad and desserts.
The price for adults is $18.49 and children (12 and under) are $8.49, not including tax. The price includes a beverage.

Easter Egg Hunt, April 7
More than 2,000 eggs filled with candy or toys will be hidden for children under the age of 12 to find. There will be four age categories for children: 0-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Eggs for each category will be hidden in different locations surrounding the Pioneer Museum. Prizes will be awarded to those who find the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place eggs and special eggs in each category. The egg hunt will begin at 11 a.m. in front of the Pioneer Museum. Easter Egg Hunt, April 8
Buckhorn Scenic Trail Association, along with Coal Mining Our Future, Ponderosa, Coal Country Power Sports, Wal-Mart and Perry County Tourism are sponsoring an Easter egg hunt at Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park. This event starts at 2:30 p.m. and is free to all children 12 and under. Children will be divided into age groups. Along with plastic eggs filled with goodies and surprises, there will be drawings for bikes, Easter baskets and a huge bunny. The Buckhorn Scenic Trail Association will take pictures of the children with the Easter bunny. These pictures will be available at Gordon’s Photo Center in Hazard afterwards. Easter Weekend Getaway, April 7-8
Carter Caves State Resort Park will have family-oriented programs during the weekend such as Easter egg coloring, canoeing, a wildflower walk and more. On April 8, the traditional buffet will be served at the restaurant and an Easter egg hunt sponsored by the Carter County Homemakers with over 1,000 eggs will be held for children ages 12 and under. Claylick Loop Hike, April 7
Explore one of the newest trails at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park, the seven-mile Claylick Loop. This moderate trek leads into the backcountry of the third-largest state park, following ridgelines past giant oaks and several rock shelters. The hike begins at 9 a.m. Meet at the Jesse Stuart Lodge, where we will depart for the trailhead. There is a $10 registration fee that will include a souvenir. “Eggstravaganza”, March 31
Join John James Audubon State Park for its annual “Eggstravaganza” from 10 a.m. to noon. Bring those little “bunnies.” ages 3-8, for a hoppin’ good time at the John James Audubon Museum. Everyone will receive rabbit ears upon registration and Miss Kim will have a fun-filled morning of “Funny Bunnies Art”, storytelling with professional story teller Mary Jo Huff, and Miss Debbi from Equestrian Enterprises will be bringing a special furry guest.
