FRANKFORT, KY (4/21/12) – The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) will offer a variety of family-friendly activities during the Governor’s Derby Celebration in downtown Frankfort from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 5.
At the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, 100 W. Broadway, families can make and decorate their own Derby hats, pick up a free “I Love Kentucky History” button, play basketball with 1900s rules and equipment in the “Women in Basketball” exhibit, learn about the Commonwealth’s past leaders in the “Toyota Kentucky Hall of Governors” and shop for souvenirs in the 1792 Stewart Home School Store. The KHS History Mobile will also be on-site, featuring the “Kentucky’s Abraham Lincoln” exhibit.
The always popular hobby-horse races will be held on the lawn of the Old State Capitol, while the Kentucky Military History Museum, featuring “Kentucky’s Military Treasures,” will be open free-of-charge.
