FRANKFORT, KY (9/28/12) – The Kentucky Commission on Women (KCW) is currently seeking nominations of outstanding Kentucky women for the “Kentucky Women Remembered” watercolor exhibit in the state Capitol.
Nominations must be submitted by Nov. 2. Nomination forms are available on the KCW website at www.women.ky.gov.
“Kentucky Women Remembered” began in 1978 and consists of portraits depicting exceptional women in Kentucky’s history. The exhibit found a permanent home in the Capitol in 1996 after many years of traveling around the Commonwealth. Thousands of visitors view the portraits each year and learn about the heritage and contributions of Kentucky women.
From the submitted nominations, a KCW committee selects up to three women to be added to the exhibit. The newest portraits will be unveiled at a formal ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda on March 12, 2013.
Nominees must have been born in or have spent a significant part of their lives in Kentucky, and may be living or deceased. Nominees’ actions or achievements should have influence outside their communities or should have elevated the status of women statewide in some significant manner. This exhibit honors extraordinary Kentucky women and their lifetime achievements.
