KY Arts Council Awards Transportation Grants to 10 Schools

KY ARTS cOUNCIL5 300FRANKFORT, Ky. (1/17/13) – The Kentucky Arts Council has awarded TranspARTation Grants to 10 Kentucky schools that will use the funding to send students to arts events and performances at venues across the state.

TranspARTation grants provide funding to Kentucky classrooms for transportation to and from live arts events. Grants are based on the mileage from the school building to the arts organization or performance venue and the number of buses necessary.

“The number of schools that benefit from this program continues to grow with every round of applications,” said Lori Meadows, executive director of the arts council. “We are so glad schools across the state are taking advantage of this funding opportunity to further enrich education through the arts.”

TranspARTation grants were awarded to the following schools for field trips that will occur from January through June:

–Wayland Alexander Elementary, Ohio County, $227
–Wurtland Middle School, Greenup County, $204
–East Calloway Elementary, Calloway County, $604
–Bardstown Primary School, Nelson County, $1,300
 –Lyon County High School, $280
–North Butler Elementary, Butler County, $1,428
 –Webster County High School, $1,376
–Olive Hill Elementary, Carter County, $280
 –Southside Elementary, Pike County, $1,504
