Governor Appoints New Members to the Kentucky State Advisory Council on Libraries

beshear capital 300FRANKFORT, Ky. (1/24/13) – Governor Steve Beshear has appointed three new members to the Kentucky State Advisory Council on Libraries, and reappointed two current board members.
 
Cathy Cravens Snell, Louisville; Patricia Gay Pannel, Bowling Green; and Arne J. Almquist, Union, will all serve terms expiring Dec. 17, 2016.
 
Snell is an attorney and will represent library users on the council. Her father, Timoleon Cravens, was also a member of the Kentucky State Advisory Council on Libraries, appointed by Gov. Wendell Ford.

Pannell is a rehabilitation administrator for the Kentucky Office for the Blind and will be representing library users who are blind or have physical disabilities.
 
“I am aware of the tremendous work done by the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives, and look forward to serving on the advisory council,” said Pannell.
 
Almquist is the director of the W. Frank Steely Library at Northern Kentucky University and will represent college or university libraries.
 
“Quality and innovative library services are keys to solving a number of the educational and economic problems of the Commonwealth. I am honored to have been selected to serve again on the Council,” said Almquist.
 
The two board members reappointed to terms that will expire Dec. 17, 2016 are:
 
• Rae Shepherd-Shlechter, of Louisville, a librarian at the Louisville Free Public Library who represents public libraries, and
• Alexander D. Grigg, of Lexington, a librarian at Lexmark who represents library users.
 
The State Advisory Council on Libraries was established to give advice to the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives on federal programs and state issues. The 21 members, made up of representatives of all types of libraries, trustees, and library supporters are appointed by the governor of the Commonwealth. The council meets quarterly, with subcommittees meeting more frequently as necessary.
