FRANKFORT, Ky. (3/4/13) – The Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission (KSNPC) will conduct a public meeting at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in the E/F conference room of the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office, 101 Lakeview Court, Frankfort.
During the meeting, the commission will be dedicating their 61st state nature preserve. The protection of 1,864 forested acres along Laurel Fork in Whitley County establishes a new nature preserve for Kentucky on the southern end of Pine Mountain and is an impressive acquisition involving multiple partners, including the estate of the late William Dennis Benge, of Fort Wright, KY., who bestowed a generous $202,000 donation upon the commission.
The agenda will include a presentation by Leah MacSwords, Director of the Division of Forestry (DOF), on the reorganization of the DOF as well as a presentation on the Laurel Fork property designed to highlight this important preserve.
