health screenHENDERSON, Ky. (03/22/2013) – Annual rankings from County Health Rankings were released this week. The County Health Rankings rank overall health in nearly every county across the United States. According to the 2013 Rankings released by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, the majority of the counties in the Green River District (Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union, & Webster) have all shown improvement in one or more areas since last year's rankings were released.

"The County Health Rankings is a great extension to each of our county's Community Health Improvement Plans and provides another tool by which we can measure our successes and potential opportunities," said Deborah Fillman, Public Health Director for the Green River District Health Department.

The Rankings allow counties to compare their health data against other counties within the Commonwealth, or even across the nation. The Rankings include a snapshot of each county in Kentucky with a color-coded map comparing each county's overall health ranking. There are also new county-level trend graphs detailing change over time for several of the measures, including children in poverty, unemployment, and quality of care.

"Data is a great resource that can be used to gauge progress or areas of weakness for our communities. We should all use this wonderful resource as an opportunity to see where we can work to make our community a healthier, happier place to live" said Jessica Austin, Regional Epidemiologist at the Green River District Health Department.

The Rankings are one part of the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps program. Communities are taking information from the County Health Rankings and using the County Health Roadmaps to build connections with local and national partners to improve health.
